Estate Planning for the Foreign Service Community
This is the EFM Law Company. We formerly specialized in estate planning for the Foreign Service -- drafting wills, trusts, powers of attorney, and advance health care directives (a.k.a. living wills). The owner and operator, Sam Schmitt, is licensed to practice law in Virginia but has not personally taken a case in a while as he fills a full time position with the State Department as of May 2021. He has been referring potential clients to independent attorneys and professionals (i.e. accountants) licensed in Virginia and other states as needed and where permitted.

What to Expect...
- A four to nine month commitment depending on your availability and response times,
- Providing extensive information about your assets, including tax returns, bank account balances, securities and real estate ownership, and benefits to which you may be entitled via trust.
- Reviewing draft documents before finalizing and signing, and
- Prompt responses to your emails (from me at least).
- Referrals vary by state and potential client's situation, for which I am not insured, assume no liability, and provide no guarantees.
